Year In Review

2014 in Review

It was another successful year of League play at Tam O'Shanter on Mondays (League Director, Debbvie Johns) and at The Sanctuary on Wednesdays (League Director, Janet Kaboth). We held weekly games and fun nights to add to the excitement of regular league play. Ahhh...Mother Nature.  We love her when she's nice but not when she rains us out of several nights of play.

The Monday Tam O'Shanter league was won by Joyce Emery and Kathy Krohn.  Wednesday at The Sanctuary was won by Nancy Martin and Linda Smith.  You have bragging rights, gals, until new champions are crowned in 2015.

AND...(drum roll please)...Congratulations to Linda Smith for her hole-in-one at The Sanctuary.

Following league play, our match-play tournament was held pitting Monday night and Wednesday night gals against each other.  Monday night gals came away with the win.  But, remember, Wednesday night won in 2013. Think there's gonna' be a great rematch coming up this fall.

HISTORIC Clearview Golf Club

Clearview Golf Course's layout with gently rolling terrain and undulating greens serves as a challenge to experienced golfers, yet also provides an enjoyable round for those players who are new to the game.

Course architect and owner William "Bill" Powell began construction of Clearview Golf Course in 1946. The first nine holes was opened for business two years later. The second nine was added in 1978.

With the help of his wife, Marcella who passed away in June of 1996, and their children Renee and Larry, Clearview has gained notoriety for being the first and thus far, only golf course designed, built, owned and operated by an African-American.

You can help to preserve “America’s Course" and the Legacy of this National Historic Site.
A Tribute to Mr. Powell, who passed away December 31, 2009.

Renee Powell learned the game of golf from her father and went on to the LPGA Tour.    She is a member of the LPGA and PGA and was recently one of the first women inducted as an honorary member of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews.  Clearview's Head Golf Professional, she is known as one of America's top teachers.

Larry Powell is Clearview's Course Superintendent. His work has been recognized by NASA and the Golf Course Superintendent's.

Euchre Nights

Throughout the winter when it's just too cold to golf, we hold monthly Euchre nights.  Be sure to watch for the announcements and join us so you don't lose track of your golfin' buddies.  We do a lot of talking about 'waiting for spring'.
